Adding onto the safety information regarding electric bikes. I witnessed two events with teenagers on electric bikes this week.

The first was at night during this week - I think Tuesday night – where I was on Barnack and turned right onto Vancouver. I thought I saw something moving towards me I the dark but was not sure. I noticed when I was passing Bluefield that there was a bike a few feet from my bumper with no headlight, wearing all black, and without a helmet. I got up to 25 when I passed Landor, and they were still very close to my bumper and keeping speed. I immediately signaled a left turn as I needed to slow down to turn into my driveway and the bike gave a little more space. When I slowed down and cut the wheel to the right so I could back into my space, the bike cut over into the opposite lane. As soon as my car stopped and I put it into reverse to back in, the bike passed me. As I was backing in, I was shocked to see that the bike quickly turned into the driveway of my neighbor two houses down. I do not know if it was their sin or a friend of his, but it was very dangerous driving on their part that could have caused an accident.

The second was earlier today as I walked to my car around 11:30am. There was a male teen on a white electric bike wearing a white dirtbike helmet that was driving down the middle of the street doing a wheelie. It was between my house and Truro after the curve in the road where on-coming traffic might not see them.

With other sightings reported to me, it only seems like a matter of time before there is a serious accident, which is the last thing I want to report in a newsletter.

2 – From a recent email I received from VDOT:

Now that the Rolling Rd project has switched to Phase 3 closure configuration, we will be shutting down Greeley Blvd to construction the west side.

Please review and communicate this detour with your residents. This detour will be implemented on 10/21/2026 and will be in place for approximately 4-5 weeks weather dependent.

You will see advanced messaging on Portable message boards starting on 10/16/2026. Please review and follow up with any questions you may have.

This is only for the west side of the intersection. The east side of the Greeley/Rolling intersection will remain open.

FYI - They will put the road closed signs at the intersection of Greeley and Rolling instead of a partial one at Greeley and Greenview. If you will be going to Barnack at Harland, please obey the stop sign. I often see people not even stop at the stop sign to turn onto Barnack with on-coming traffic having to stop. It happened to me last night.

3 – From a recent FCPD newsletter:

October is Crime Prevention Month, a reminder of the importance of taking proactive steps to protect your property. Burglars do not wait for nightfall. They can strike at any hour, including midday. Homes and businesses alike can be targets, but a few smart security habits make a real difference. The Fairfax County Police Department shares the following tips to help residents and business owners protect their property.

Burglary Prevention Habits

For Residents:

-Keep every door and window locked, even while you are at home.

-Add deadbolts and reinforced strike plates to strengthen entry points.

-Place motion-activated lights near doors and other access areas.

-Trim bushes and trees so burglars have nowhere to hide.

-Skip the hidden spare key. Use a lockbox instead.

-Set timers on lamps and TVs so the home looks occupied.

-Lock up garages and sheds so tools and ladders stay out of reach.

-Call our non-emergency number at 703-691-2131 to report suspicious activity.

For Businesses:

-Install quality locks on all doors and windows.

-Protect glass doors and windows with security film or bars.

-Leave interior and exterior lights on after hours.

-Consider property design upgrades, such as bollards or barriers.

-Restrict who holds keys, and rekey locks when employees depart.

-Lock up safes and registers, and do not leave extra cash on site overnight.

-Put up surveillance cameras with clearly visible warning signs.

-Schedule routine security reviews with your Crime Prevention Unit.

-Call our non-emergency line at 703-691-2131 to report suspicious activity.

Get Involved: Community Resources and Crime Prevention

Residents and business owners can request a free security assessment from the Crime Prevention Unit at their district station. The visit highlights what is working and where improvements are needed. To stay informed, check our weekly Community Events blog for Neighborhood Watch meetings, Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) meetings, and special trainings. These events offer a look at local crime trends and a chance to meet officers who serve your district.

Connect Fairfax County: Building a Safer Community

Joining the Connect Fairfax County program is a strong way to support crime prevention. Registering a camera does not give police access to your footage. It does help detectives locate cameras near a crime scene that may have recorded useful evidence. Even if you have never been a victim, your footage could help solve a case in your neighborhood.

With these steps and the help of our community, we can reduce burglaries and keep Fairfax County safe. To learn more or request a free security assessment, contact your district station today.

4 – From a neighbor:

I have a 12” table saw that is mounted on wheeled stand that I would like to give to a person that could it to good use. The saw is about four years old and not used very much.
