May 25, 2024

I forgot to include something in the last newsletter from the May Meeting. There was talk again of having social events throughout the year. I said that was an excellent idea, but we need people who will help come up with ideas and coordinate these events. I was not living here when there were events, so I do not know what should be brought back. Things like the parade, having block parties in the cul-de-sacs, possibly collaborating with the pool were mentioned. If you are interested in helping, please let me know.

2 – Adult volunteers are needed for the All-Night Grad Party. You can sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084AABAE22A5FCCF8-46871512-allnight#/ . The party is 11pm-5am, but volunteer shifts start at 9pm and end at 5:30am. Shift length depend on the task but look like they are for a few hours.

If you have any school information that you think the community would want to know, like events, closings, fundraisers, etc., please let me know. I can add it to a newsletter. Please give as much notice as possible since this does not go out weekly.

3 – The Community Yard Sale is Saturday, June 8, 8am-noon. If you ae participating, please email me your address, name (optional), and a brief description of what you will be selling. A lot of people give things away for free, so it is a great opportunity to get rid of unused items. If you want to help put up signs the night before and take them down after, please let me know.

4 – A reminder that the Noise Ordinance also has provisions for animals. Here is some information from Fairfax County:

When is Animal Noise a Violation of the County’s Ordinance?

Sect. 108.1-4-1 of the Fairfax County Code (Noise Ordinance) establishes limitations on any owner or person in control of any animal that allows or otherwise permits any such

animal to bark, howl, bay, meow, squawk, quack, crow or make such sound.

Noise from animals is prohibited that is plainly audible and discernable:

  • Between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. that is plainly audible in any other person’s residential dwelling with doors and windows closed.
  • Between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. when the sound is plainly audible across real property boundaries or through partitions common to residential dwellings AND can be heard for more than 5 consecutive or nonconsecutive minutes in any 10-minute period.
  • The provisions of this Ordinance shall not apply to any animal that, at the time of sound or sound generation, was responding to pain or injury or was protecting itself, its kennel, its offspring or a person from an actual threat. Additionally, it does not apply to police dogs that are engaged in the performance of its duties at the time of making the sound.
