Hello everyone. I set up a signature for emails I send out. I do not know if it will appear in the newsletter. I guess you might get a surprise at the bottom.
- Community Safety
- National Night Out – Tuesday, August 6, 6-8PM
- Alert for scams
- Directory Cover Photo
- Calendar

1 – Even though school is out, there are still classes being held and buses driving around to pick up and drop off children. Please be mindful of them when leaving for work in the morning. Also, please tell your visiting friends, your driving children, and maybe yourself to:
- slow down at hills, low points, and curves in the road to avoid on-coming traffic.
- stay to the right as much as possible to prevent hitting on-coming traffic because you are in the middle of the road.
- if you are riding a bicycle, stay on the right side of the road and do not veer to the left side at curves in the road.
- for pedestrians, try to find mindful places to cross the street so you are as visible as possible to traffic. This means avoiding curves/hills/low points and not being close to parked vehicles that will hide you.
I have received more comments about this in the last month. I have also observed these things myself.
2 – Next Tuesday, 8/6, is National Night Out at the West Village Pool pavilion, 6-8pm. There will be ice cream and a non-dairy alternative served by the CAWSV President – me. We usually have police and fire/rescue staff attend. Stop by and say hello.
3 – There seem to be scam alerts going out every few weeks. Common ones include saying you owe a fine to state or federal agencies and can pay with gift cards, and your bank saying there is a fraud issue with your account and ask for your account and password information.
A new one is that you receive a payment to your online payment account like PayPal or Venmo which is followed by someone messaging you saying that they did it in error and asking you to refund them. If this happens to you, ignore it and do not reply. The money sent to you was from a stolen credit card or an illegal bank transfer. If you return the money, it is from your own account. When the stolen funds are retrieved, the original money you received vanishes and you lose the money that you gave back. If you have any doubt or concerns, contact customer service to confirm what happened and what to do. They will tell you to not respond and to not refund the money since it will most likely go away in a couple of days.
4 – I was finally able to get the data out so the Directory can be created. That means we need a photo for the cover. Please send me any ones you like. Please send a photo with a good resolution so it will look good when it is enlarged.
I received an offer to help collect/organize the data from the membership drive, so I hope to have next year’s Directory go out a lot earlier.
