Thanks again for those who have renewed and those who have contacted me to see if they owe anything. A reminder that it is $10 a year if you are paying by cash or check. It costs more if you are paying online because of their processing fees. A few people have paid more and have donated towards someone else’s dues. If you are falling on hard times and would like some help paying your renewal fee, please contact me.

1 – It is almost time for the Annual Holiday Yard Decoration Contest. If you have time, please walk around and see who you think should deserves praise. Please send your top three choices by Friday, December 26 by replaying to this email. One entry per household.
2 – As the cold weather approaches, please be aware of ice and snow on the roads and sidewalks. If you are not sure of how slick a sidewalk is, do the ‘penguin walk’ over it by taking very small steps while walking with straight posture to center your weight over your feet to reduce the chances of falling. Taking long steps can cause your center of balance to shift and increase the chance of having your feet fall to from under you. With the sun setting earlier, please wear reflective clothes or walk with a flashlight. Also, please look up from your phone when crossing the street to make sure oncoming traffic notices you.
Here is something from the Braddock District newsletter for decoration dafety:
3 – With the ongoing construction on Rolling Rd, please look out for one another when you are driving on it. If you see someone trying to turn onto or off of Rolling, slow down a little and flash your high beams to let them know you are allowing them to maneuver. It only slows you down for ten seconds, but it can save someone a few minutes of sitting there hoping for a large enough gap. I have alerted VDOT when I see construction vehicles parked along the barriers and blocking sight distance, but I mainly use Barnack and Springfield Village Dr. If it happens on other roads, please contact VDOT or me so I can pass it along. They are supposed to provide a safe environment for us during construction.
4 – I saw something from the Police saying to be aware of scams. I also saw a warning from the Post Office that they never text people and that receiving a text saying that the Post Office is a scam and to report it. Many businesses and institutions send letters or call and never text you. If you are suspicious of a text or voicemail you receive, look up the number of the place (do not call a number they give you) and contact them directly. If it was not them, you can report receiving spam.
5 – If you still need to renew, here is the information on how to do so.
If you are paying by cash or check, do not pay an additional fee. It is still $10/year. You can drop off payments in the box in front of my house (6919 Vancouver Rd) to save a stamp, mail it to:
CAWSV
PO Box 2204
Springfield, VA 22152
If you want to pay online via PayPal, here are the links for renewing:
1-year renewal ($10+$0.90 fee)
2-year renewal ($20+$1.25 fee)
3-year renewal ($30+$1.50 fee)
If you are a new resident, please let me know. The database is set up by last name, so I freak out when I cannot find your name and then see a different name when I search your address.
If there are people by other names that live in your house that might pay dues, please include them in case their name is listed for your address.
If you are paying for a neighbor or family member, please include the name and address the payment is intended for to make my life a little easier.
