Village Mini-News - December 18, 2024

December 18, 2024

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes. I forgot two things for last week’s newsletter. A few additional things have popped up, so I figured I would do a mini newsletter.

If you want to vote for the West Springfield Village Civic Association House Decoration Contest, send me your list of the top 5 houses by Friday, December 27. Send it to president@westspringfieldvillage.org. You choose the criteria – your top choice is which you think is the best. Only one list per household. I will get a newsletter out that weekend to announce the top three and honorable mentions.

With the Holidays, you might have people visiting. Please remind guests not to park too close to neighbor’s driveways so they cannot use them, and to not block the sidewalk if they park in your driveway. Both can get you a ticket. Also, please tell them to expect to move closer to the side of the road if there is oncoming traffic. If they feel uncomfortable when doing this, they should slow down. Our streets can get a little narrow if there are cars parked on both sides.

There was a follow-up to the Bauer Drive/Rolling Road presentation by VDOT in the Springfield District newsletter. They said that while a traffic signal is warranted, it would be several years before there would be funding available. They also said between 2019 and 2023 there were 29 crashes at this intersection and 21 involved someone making this turn. They will also evaluate eliminating U-turns at the intersection as an alternative solution.

VDOT’s presentation is available for viewing here. The comment period is open through December 31st and you can share your feedback with VDOT via email (to MeetingComments@vdot.virginia.gov with “Bauer Drive” In the subject line) or US mail to Ms. Houda Ali, P.E. VDOT Northern Virginia District 4975 Alliance Drive Fairfax, VA 22030
